Here’s a fun one! One of our podcasts showed up as doubling its downloads over night in April, so our Audience Development Manager and I did a triple-take and started checking stats. Turns out, an episode in mid-March got a HUGE influx of downloads from JioSaavn, which is one of the two big India podcasting platforms (https://www.tritondigital.com/press-releases/November-11-2020/triton-digital-s-omny-studio-partners-with-jiosaavn-to-increase-access-to-global-podcast-content-in-india). I had submitted our ‘casts through Omny, which is our host, and then forgotten about it. I’m extra surprised because the podcast in question is about romance novels, and generally is either unrated or marked explicit, and the Indian market is notoriously leery of hosting anything over PG. So it could be spam downloads, or an actual genuine interest in the material, but it doesn’t seem to me there’s any good way to find out??
It seems like the downloads are tapering off episode over episode, so that could definitely mean it was some kind of error/glitch/spam attack, but who knows. Wondering if anyone else has had an experience like this?
